Where is the Burn Center located?
We are located in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the West End area of Nashville, Tennessee. Click here for detailed directions and maps.

What are visiting hours?
Intensive Care Patients:
9 am to 9:15 am
1 pm to 1:15 pm
5 pm to - 5:15 pm
8 pm to 8:15 pm
Step-Down Rehab Patients:
9 am to 9 pm

When should I bring a patient to the Burn Center?
Seek medical treatment in the Burn Center when: (Click to learn more)

  • A burn covers a large area, especially if blistering occurs.
  • There is extreme pain or loss of sensation.
  • Burns occur to face, eyes, hands or feet.
  • A burn involves chemicals or electricity.
  • There is smoke inhalation due to fire exposure.
  • A burn does not appear to be healing appropriately.

How do I wash a burn wound?
Wash burns, grafts or donors every 12 hours until they are healed, using a non-perfumed, mild, antibacterial soap. May take a warm bath in a clean tub or shower using a soft spray. Use a clean washcloth for EACH wound site to prevent the possible spread of infection. Use another washcloth for the rest of your body. Do not scrub. Pat dry. Click to learn more about wound care.

What kind of educational programs does the Burn Center provide?

What services are available for victims who are children?
A Child-Life Specialist will be available for pediatric patients and children of adult patients.
